The Mbagen College of Health Technology, Abwa (COHTA) was established by Mbagen Development Association (MDA) and is headed by the Administrator Mbagen Health Services His Royah Highness Ter Buruku II Chief Moses Ihomver Hanior, whose untiring efforts have yielded a lot of positive results and is poised to do more.
COHTA started operations in January, 2014 and was officially commissioned on the 9th of May, 2014 by Senator Dr. George Akume. However, it commenced with just one block of three lecture rooms, one of which was converted into staff room the other were occupied by CHEW and JCHEW students respectively.
The staff of the College as of then included among others the Principal Mrs Adaga Terver, the Vice Principal Mrs Dinah Taku, the Head of Department Mr Andoor Manasseh who also served as the Dean, Exam Officer and Cashier; and other teaching and non teaching staff.
The College moved from that baby status to a big institution with several blocks of lecture rooms, Administrative block with many Offices, a Demonstration block with various equipment and models and teaching aids, a large capacity library, a well equipped laboratory and a gigantic Auditorium hall. The College can also boast of six (6) permanent Primary Healthcare Tutor and four (4) visiting and many other teaching and non teaching staff.
The College attained full accreditation in January, 2018 by the Community Health Practitioners Registration Board of Nigeria (CHPRBN) to train CHEW and JCHEW students. The College is also bringing other departments on board, the laboratory department will soon commence after which other departments will follow.
